it was really nice and everything was good A++++
I booked a single room & was pleasantly surprised by the size and facilities. It was more akin to a small double (slightly larger than the pokey singe rooms at other hotels), was very clean, had a comfortable bed, tea/coffee making facilities and an ensuite. Reception gave free city map and lots of helpful information about the area on arrival. Bag storage after check out was handy. And I was happy to see this was in a safe place behind the reception desk - not in the open lounge area as in some other budget hotels. I would say this hotel is on the nicer end of the budget hotel spectrum.
This is a budget hotel - so I did not expect silver service. But a few little things would have made my stay better: 1. I would expect freeview as a minimum tv service in all hotels these days. Ullswater offered 4 terrestrial channels and ch5 didn't work. Not a deal breaker though. 2. The breakfast fry-up was a little small - but adequate. And they ran out of the vegetarian options which upset some guests. 3. They cardinal sin of hotel breakfasts - serving orange squash/cordial instead of juice. Real juice is a must these days. 4. Cleaners are very noisy and start clunking around early in the morning. I understand they have a job to do but slamming doors and having loud conversations in the hallway at 7am Sunday morning isn't great. But despite this niggles the Ullswater is a good budget hotel.
Good location, relatively comfortable.
The man at reception on our arrival was somewhat terse, however was helpful regarding parking (there was none remaining on hotel premises). The hotel was full of dinner dance attendees, so it was difficult to get served at the bar. The coffee/tea replenishments had to be purchased! A first in my experience. The room was stuffy and hot, very little wardrobe space and no remote for the tv, but it was reasonably comfortable. There were no toiletries in the bathroom, apart from soap. The big downside was the breakfast - we were moved once seated as there was no-one available to direct us to our allocated table (and no numbering etc to indicate where we should sit). Despite a request for a vegetarian breakfast, none was forthcoming - eventually my partner was presented with a plate of beans, a tomato and a half slice of fried bread. Upon complaint, we were informed that no veggie option was available. When I pointed out that their website mentioned veggie food, the terse man suddenly became very apologetic and we finally got two veg sausages with the beans and tomato! He then returned 1/2 hr later and denied that veg food was mentioned. In the meantime, I think he may have changed the bookings.com entry as when I checked later, there was no note of veg options. I would not stay there again, although the location was ideal for the beach and the town, there are plenty of other hotels in the area.
The hotel is very dated and the lift was interesting!! The room was basic but very clean.
Room Service is very expensive. There is a charge of £9.50 before you ordered anything, however the hotel information stated it was £3.50... Parking was a challenge.
The hotel staff were extremely friendly and very helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and the rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable . A perfect location also as only 2 minutes from the beech. An excellent traditional hotel, very reasonably priced and a really enjoyable stay. Thanks
An earlier start for breakfast - currently 8.30.
The lady who greeted us was very pleasant and efficient, we booked a double but when we went to our room it had 2 singles. We told her and by the time we came back in the evening it had been changed, no hassle. She was very informative and helpful. Can't really fault this hotel for the price, Good Value for money
Shower was a bit tempremental, difficult to get a steady flow of 'warm' water.
Very enjoyable stay, very clean and comfort.
Cooked breakfast could have been better.
I particularly liked the approachability of the staff - you felt that you could ask them anything and they would try to help. The location of the hotel is good for beach, town and pier. Breakfasts were good, always served hot and on hot plates and waiting staff were very efficient. I also appreciated my newly refurbished bathroom. Everything was also very clean and the bed was comfortable. A good budget hotel.
Parking can be a bit of an issue but again the staff are very helpful in suggesting where best to park and in moving cars if you get blocked in. There was a hole in the wallpaper next to my bed which spoilt the appearance of the room. I did mention this to the hotel owner and he has added this to the 'jobs to be done' book. I am sure that this will be rectified soon.
The staff were all very friendly and most helpful, we arrived mid morning and were advised that it would be fine to leave our car parked on the hotel forecourt whilst we went off downtown by bus. The service in the dining room was very good, staff seemed to be quite well organised. The cooked breakfast was ok on first morning, but much better on our second morning, very tasty bacon and the freshly made coffee was first class . The lift worked very efficiently and fast, but it was a bit of struggle getting in and out of it, due to inner gate and very heavy outer doors. The location was quiet, with no through traffic. Bed was clean and comfortable.
Bathroom was quite cramped, it would be very difficult for anyone with a large body size to use the toilet or shower. Water pressure in shower very weak. Decor in room looking shabby, ceiling paper was loose in several places.
Very helpful staff . good cooked breakfast.
Room 37 - bed good size but very hard had to put pillows under hips to be comfortable enough to sleep. Shelf over sink too low, hard to wash face with out catching head on it. Breakfast - Toast delivered to table to soon it has gone cold by the time you want to eat it,though the staff did bring it out later after asking.
A very nice and friendly hotel . Very clean, very comfortable accommodation, Dining excellent, and over all very good value
Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Could do with updating, ensuite very small and bed a bit old and uncomfortable
The staff were very friendly and the rooms, although slightly out dated, were OKay.
We stayed in a double room and the bed was a smallish size as well as the bath room.
Spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. Car parking available. easy reach of beach and promenade. Ideal for an overnight stay or longer. excellent breakfast served by really pleasant dining staff. Very good value.
The decorations are a little dated but overall the decor of the hotel was pleasing.
